PE and Sport Premium

Physical Education and Sports Premium at

The Willows

Sports Leader: Hashim Khan

Total fund allocated for 2023/2024:  £16,390

Background

In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of physical education (PE), physical activity and sport they offer.

This means schools should use the premium to:

  • develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sport activities the school already offers
  • build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

Schools can use the premium to secure improvements in the following indicators:

  • the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5-18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.
  • the profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement
  • increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • increased participation in competitive sports.

The Vision

At The Willows, we believe that children should know and understand the importance of living a healthy active lifestyle and know how to do so. We want them to use their school and British values to achieve the best that they can be. We want them to grow in our school community with a healthy body and healthy mind.

Our Objective

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in our school. It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
